Hills and Rivers
Elavumthitta is about 46 meters (150 feet) above sea level on average. There's a peak called Namakuzhy, which is 118 meters (387 feet) high. It's about 2 kilometers north of Elavumthitta and is the highest point in the area.
There's a cool legend about Namakuzhy peak! People say that the Pandavas, who were famous heroes from the ancient Indian epic Mahabharata, visited this place. They even say there are giant footprints on the rocks, believed to be from Bhima, the super strong warrior. There was also a pit with water that never dried up, which added to the local stories.
Elavumthitta is important for two big rivers: the Sacred Pamba and Achankovil. The heavy rainfall in the region helps keep these rivers full, even in summer. This means Elavumthitta always has plenty of groundwater, so people here don't usually face droughts or floods. Most homes have their own wells for water.
Rainfall in Elavumthitta
Elavumthitta doesn't have its own rain gauge, but it's very close to Pathanamthitta, which does. The rainfall data helps us understand the weather patterns. The average yearly rainfall in this area is about 2700 millimeters. This high rainfall is why the region stays green and has plenty of water.

In the middle of Elavumthitta, there's a giant banyan tree. No one knows exactly how old it is, but some say it's over 800 years old! This tree has given shade to many travelers over the centuries. It stands tall and majestic, providing a home for birds and fruits for those who need them.
First Sivagiri Pilgrimage
In 1932, with the blessings of Sree Narayana Guru, five young men from Elavumthitta began the very first 'Sivagiri Theerthadanam' (pilgrimage). Sree Narayana Guru had approved the idea of starting this pilgrimage on January 16, 1928. It was decided that the first journey would begin from Elavumthitta. The S N D P unit No.76 in Elavumthitta chose these five young men, sometimes called 'Manjakkilikal' (yellow birds):
