Electric Peak is a very tall mountain located in southern Montana. It stands near the border of Wyoming. This mountain is the highest point in the Gallatin Range.
Electric Peak is also part of Yellowstone National Park. It rises about 3,389 feet (1,033 meters) from its base. This makes it one of the most impressive mountains in the park.

How Electric Peak Got Its Name
Electric Peak received its unique name in 1872. This happened during the first time people climbed to its top. A group from the United States Geological Survey was exploring the area. They were part of what was known as the Hayden Survey.
An Electrifying Discovery
The team was led by a man named Henry Gannett. While they were on the summit, a lightning storm occurred. The explorers felt electricity. They experienced small electrical shocks. These shocks came from their hands and even their hair! This exciting event gave the mountain its name. It truly was an "electric" peak.
