Elizabeth Warren's Presidential Campaign
Elizabeth Warren is a well-known politician from Massachusetts. She has been a senator since 2013. In late 2018, she began exploring the idea of running for president.
Starting the Campaign
On December 31, 2018, Senator Warren announced she was forming an exploratory committee. This is a special group that helps a person decide if they should run for president. It lets them start raising money and planning. She was one of the first major Democratic politicians to do this for the 2020 election. She shared her plans in a video on December 30, 2018.
What She Wanted to Do
In her announcement video, Elizabeth Warren talked about her main ideas. She said that "America's middle class is under attack." This meant she believed that regular working families were facing many challenges. Her plan focused on helping these families and making the economy fairer for everyone. This type of plan is often called a populist economic agenda.
Campaign Ends
After campaigning for over a year, Elizabeth Warren decided to stop her presidential campaign. This happened on March 5, 2020. She had not won any of the early primary elections. Also, her support in polls was not very high. A primary election is how a political party chooses its best candidate.
After ending her own campaign, Senator Warren decided to support another candidate. On April 15, 2020, she announced her support for Joe Biden. He later became the Democratic Party's nominee for president.
