Elkins is a city located in Washington County, Arkansas, United States. It's nestled in the Ozark Mountains, specifically in the Boston Mountains area. Elkins became a city in 1964, formed by joining two smaller communities called Harris and Hood.
The city is just east of Fayetteville in the larger Northwest Arkansas region. Elkins has been growing quickly, with its population doubling between 2000 and 2010.

The city of Elkins is found southeast of Fayetteville. It sits along Arkansas Highway 16 on the west bank of the White River.

The Collins Mound Site
Near the White River, there's an important historical place called the Collins Mound Site. It has five large mounds spread across an 18-acre area. Experts believe this site dates back to the Early to Middle Mississippian period, which was between 900 and 1400 A.D.
This site was likely a complex settlement for ancient people. It may have been used for special ceremonies related to burying the dead, connecting different native groups in the region. Researchers have found evidence of interesting building shapes, including rectangular and dodecahedron (12-sided) structures, and possibly a central open space or plaza.
