Ellis Lane is a quiet area, or suburb, located in the Macarthur Region of Sydney. It's part of the state of New South Wales, Australia, and falls under the Camden Council area. It's mostly a rural place, meaning it has lots of open land and farms.
A Look Back: Ellis Lane's History
Long ago, the land where Ellis Lane now sits was home to Indigenous Australian groups. The Gandangara people from the Southern Highlands lived here. Also, the Muringong people, who were part of the larger Darug people group, were known to be in the area.
In 1805, a man named John Macarthur received a large piece of land. He was famous for starting the wool industry in Australia. His grant was 5,000 acres (about 20 square kilometers) in a place called Cowpastures, which is now Camden. Ellis Lane is still mostly a rural area today, keeping some of its historical feel.
