Growing Up
Emily Armstrong was born in Los Angeles, California. She started writing songs and playing guitar when she was 11 years old. By the time she was 15, she began to sing. Emily decided to leave high school early because she really wanted to be in a rock band. She felt that music was the most important thing in her life.
Music Career
Starting with Dead Sara

In 2002, Emily Armstrong met guitarist Siouxsie Medley through a friend. They both loved similar music, especially bands like Nirvana and L7. They also liked folk and blues artists from the 1960s and 1970s, and classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac.
Their band was first called Epiphany. They played their first show in March 2005 at a club in Los Angeles. Emily sang and also played the bass guitar in the band.
Emily was very good at writing songs, often inspired by folk rock music. She liked to use special guitar tunings, which helped create Dead Sara's unique sound. When she performed, she was influenced by artists like Iggy Pop and Janis Joplin.
Even before Dead Sara released their first album, Emily was getting noticed for her singing. Famous singers like Grace Slick and Courtney Love praised her powerful voice. Courtney Love even invited Emily to sing on her band Hole's album in 2010.
Before joining Linkin Park, Emily also worked with many other artists. She recorded or performed live with bands and musicians such as the Offspring, Beck, and Demi Lovato.
Joining Linkin Park

On September 5, 2024, Linkin Park announced Emily Armstrong as their new co-lead singer during a live online concert. During this event, they performed "The Emptiness Machine". This song was the first single from their new album, From Zero, which came out on November 15, 2024.
Linkin Park's first public concert with Emily was on September 11, 2024, in Los Angeles. Music critics praised her performance. Steve Appleford from the Los Angeles Times said Emily could sing both soft melodies and powerful, "throat-ripping" vocals, which fit Linkin Park's sound perfectly. Chris Willman from Variety noted that the large audience of about 17,000 people clearly welcomed her to the band with loud cheers.
Personal Life
Emily Armstrong has shared that she identifies as queer.
In 2013, Emily attended an event for the Church of Scientology. After she joined Linkin Park in September 2024, some news reports talked about her past connection to the church. Some fans of Linkin Park also had questions about this. Emily later explained that she attended one court appearance in 2020 to support someone she considered a friend at the time. However, she quickly realized it was a mistake and has not spoken to that person since. She stated that she does not support abuse or violence against women and feels for victims of such crimes.
