Emily Jane Browning (born December 7, 1988) is a talented actress from Australia. She started her acting journey in 1998 in a TV movie called The Echo of Thunder. After that, she appeared in several TV shows.
Emily became well-known for her role in the 2002 movie Ghost Ship. In 2005, she won an award for Best Actress. This was for her amazing performance as Violet Baudelaire in the film Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004).
She has also starred in other popular films. These include The Uninvited (2009) and Sucker Punch (2011). Emily was named the Breakthrough Performer of The Year at a film festival. Starting Out: 1998–2007
Emily Browning's first acting job was in 1998. It was for a TV movie called The Echo of Thunder. Soon after, she got more roles in Australian TV and movies. She appeared in the TV series Blue Heelers from 2000 to 2002. She was also in Something in the Air from 2000 to 2001.
In 2001, Emily acted alongside Billy Connolly in The Man Who Sued God. She made her first American movie appearance in 2002. This was in Ghost Ship. That same year, she won an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Young Actress. In 2003, she worked with Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom in Ned Kelly. The next year, she reunited with Billy Connolly in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. She played the character Violet Baudelaire.
In 2006, Emily was in a music video for the band Evermore. The song was called "Light Surrounding You."
Big Roles: 2008–2011
Emily played the main character in the 2009 horror movie The Uninvited. This movie was an American version of a South Korean film. She was offered a chance to try out for the role of Bella Swan in Twilight. However, she turned it down because she was feeling tired.
In 2009, she was chosen for the role of Babydoll. This was in Zack Snyder's action movie Sucker Punch. Filming for this movie happened in Vancouver from September 2009 to January 2010. The movie was released on March 25, 2011. Emily also sang in the film.
In February 2010, it was announced that Emily would star in an Australian independent film. It was called Sleeping Beauty. The movie was shown at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Critics praised Emily's strong performance in the film.

In 2012, Emily took on the lead female role in Summer in February. This movie was based on a book. In July 2012, Emily was cast in God Help the Girl. This was a musical film, and she had to sing live for her role.
Emily also starred in Catherine Hardwicke's movie Plush. She acted alongside Cam Gigandet and Xavier Samuel. Another film, Magic Magic, was shown at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
In 2014, Emily starred in Pompeii. This was a big historical disaster movie. She filmed it in Toronto and the city of Pompeii. While filming Pompeii, she went back to Australia to make a music video. It was for the song "No Matter What You Say" by the band Imperial Teen.

When Emily was 21, she moved to London. Later, she moved to Los Angeles because London became too expensive. She lives on the Eastside of Los Angeles. She also travels back to her hometown in Australia sometimes. Emily has talked about her mental well-being and has been in therapy. She also thinks about life and the world in her own way.
