Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih (born February 1, 1955 – died May 2, 2012) was an Indonesian doctor, researcher, and writer. She served as the Minister of Health for Indonesia. She held this important role from October 22, 2009, until April 30, 2012.

Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih's Career Journey
Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih started her career as a doctor in 1979. She worked at the Jakarta Pertamina Hospital. In 1980, she joined the public health service. She spent three years working in remote areas. There, she led the Waipare Health Center in East Nusa Tenggara.
In 1983, she moved to Jakarta. She continued her work in public health with the Jakarta Provincial Health Office. Later, in 1997, she joined the National Institute of Health Research and Development (NIHRD). This institute is part of the Indonesian Ministry of Health.
Her Work as a Researcher
Dr. Sedyaningsih worked as a researcher at the NIHRD for over ten years. She focused on disease control and program development. In 2001, she spent six months working at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland.
From 1997 to 2006, she was a technical adviser at WHO headquarters. She helped with tracking and responding to infectious diseases. In 2007, she became the Director of the Center of Biomedical Research and Program Development at NIHRD. She was known for her bravery in helping create the GISAID sharing system. This system helps share information about global health.
Becoming the Minister of Health
On October 22, 2009, Dr. Sedyaningsih was chosen for a big job. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appointed her as the Minister of Health for Indonesia. She joined his cabinet, which was called the Second Unified Indonesia Cabinet. She took over from Siti Fadillah Supari.
Illness and Passing
In October 2010, Dr. Sedyaningsih was diagnosed with lung cancer. She received a lot of medical care. On April 20, 2012, she went to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Jakarta because she was in pain.
On April 26, 2012, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited her. She resigned from her role as Minister of Health due to her illness. On April 30, 2012, President Yudhoyono officially ended her term.
Dr. Sedyaningsih passed away on May 2, 2012, at the age of 57. Her funeral was held the next day. President Yudhoyono led the ceremony at the Heroes Plaza in San Diego Hills Memorial Park, Karawang, West Java.
Her Education Journey
Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih grew up in Jakarta. She attended a public elementary school. She then went to SMP Negeri 35 and SMA Negeri 4 for her middle and high school education.
In 1979, she earned her medical degree from the University of Indonesia. She later studied at Harvard School of Public Health. In 1997, she received her Master of Public Health (MPH) and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degrees. Her studies focused on how diseases spread in communities, known as Social Epidemiology.
Her Family Life
Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih was the oldest child of Sudjiran Resosudarmo and Satimah Mardjana. She was married to Dr. Reanny Mamahit. He was a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology (women's health and childbirth). He was also the Director of RSUD Tangerang Hospital. Dr. Sedyaningsih and her husband had two sons and one daughter.
