When he was just 15 years old, on 24 August 1892, he joined the General Military Academy in Toledo. He later graduated from the Academy of Military Engineering of Guadalajara.
In his personal life, he married Concepción Curbera Vicuña on 23 September 1910. She was the daughter of a local businessman. Sadly, his wife passed away on 4 November 1933.
Role in the Spanish Civil War
By 1936, Enrique Cánovas Lacruz was a colonel and was in charge of the Engineers Service for the VIII Military Region. When the Spanish Civil War began on 18 July 1936, he joined the Nationalist faction. He was responsible for helping the military uprising succeed in Vigo.
During the Civil War, he was promoted to divisional general. From 1937 until the end of the conflict, he was assigned to lead the military forces in the Balearic Islands.
