Envelope facts for kids

An envelope is like a special paper pouch. People use envelopes to send letters, cards, or important documents through the mail. Most envelopes are made from paper or a stronger type of paper.
You usually attach a stamp to the envelope. This stamp shows that you have paid to send the mail.
What is an Envelope?
Envelopes are a type of packaging. They are designed to hold flat items like letters or documents. This keeps your mail safe and private as it travels through the postal system.
Different Kinds of Envelopes
Envelopes come in many sizes. Some are small, so you might need to fold the paper you put inside. Others are large enough that you do not need to fold your documents.
A larger envelope is often called a manila envelope. These are usually a yellowish-orange color. People use manila envelopes to send many pages of papers when a regular envelope would be too small. They are also great for sending important papers, like birth certificates, that should not be folded.
