Erlinsbach is a municipality, which is like a town or local government area, in Switzerland. It is located in the canton (similar to a state) of Solothurn, within the Gösgen district. This municipality was created on January 1, 2006, when two smaller places, Niedererlinsbach and Obererlinsbach, joined together.

History of Erlinsbach

The two original towns, Niedererlinsbach and Obererlinsbach, were first mentioned in old records way back in 1173. At that time, they were called Arnlesbah. Later, in 1276, Niedererlinsbach was known as Nidern Ernlispach, and Obererlinsbach was called Obern Ernlispach.

Erlinsbach's Coat of Arms

The rest of the land is used for buildings and roads, making up about 13.6%. A small part, about 2.8%, is made up of rivers or lakes. Most of the water in the municipality is flowing water, like streams.

Erlinsbach has a population of about 3,136 people (as of 2023). About 14.2% of the people living here are from other countries. Over the last ten years, the population has grown by about 10.1%.

In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between males (48.2%) and females (51.8%). Most people living in Erlinsbach are Swiss citizens.

In Obererlinsbach, similar numbers were found, with about 46.9% Roman Catholic and 31.7% Swiss Reformed. Other religions like Islam, Orthodox Christianity, and Hinduism were also present in smaller numbers. Some people did not belong to any church.
