Early Life and Musical Roots

Erroll Starr was born in Jamaica. His father was also a musician! He played reggae music in a band called People's Choice. This likely inspired Erroll's own musical journey.

Building a Music Career

Erroll Starr started his music career in Toronto. While he was singing R&B, he also played in a rock band called Harbinger. This shows he had a wide range of musical talents!

First Songs and Album

In 1986 and 1987, Erroll released several songs. These included "Holding Out for You," "The Key," and "For the Love of Money." His first album, Temple of Love, came out in 1987. It was released by A&M Records.

That same year, Erroll joined other Toronto musicians. They recorded a Christmas song for charity called "A Christmas Wish." Some of the other artists included Billy Newton-Davis and Kim Richardson.

Awards and Challenges

Erroll Starr was nominated for his first Juno Award in 1986 for "The Key." He received another nomination in 1987 for "For the Love of Money." In 1987, he also won the Best Male Artist award. This was from the Black Music Association of Canada.

However, it was tough for many Black Canadian musicians back then. Canadian radio stations didn't play their music very often. Because of this, A&M Records did not sign Erroll for another album.

New Directions in Music

In the early 1990s, Erroll moved to Hamilton. There, he started working as a record producer. He also created music for movies, TV shows, and commercials.

During this time, he formed a country music duo. It was called North Starr, and his partner was Mike Northcott. In 1994, he released his second album, From the Inside Out. This album came out on an independent record label called Asoma Records.

Erroll Starr still performs live sometimes at public events.

Life Outside Music

In the early 2000s, Erroll and his family moved to Killaloe. They built a special home there. It's an off-the-grid house, meaning it makes its own power. It's also environmentally friendly and built in the Earthship style.

Erroll Starr's niece is also a musician! Her name is Tasha Schumann, and she is a rapper known as Tasha the Amazon.
