Starting His Pro Journey
Drafted by the Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals picked Esix Snead in the 18th round of the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft. This was the start of his professional baseball adventure.
Throughout his career, Esix was known for his speed more than his hitting. He might not have had a super high batting average, but he was a master at stealing bases.
Speed on Display
In 1998, playing for the Low-A New Jersey Cardinals, he stole 42 bases in only 58 games. The next year, in 1999, he stole 64 bases while playing for the Single-A Peoria Chiefs and High-A Potomac Cannons.
The year 2000 was a huge year for Esix. He played for the Cannons again and led all minor league players in stolen bases. He set a new Carolina League record by stealing 109 bases! This broke the old record held by Lenny Dykstra. Esix also made the All-Star team that year.
In 2001, he played for the Double-A New Haven Ravens. This was his last season with the Cardinals' organization.
Playing for the Mets

On September 21, 2002, playing against the Montreal Expos, Esix got his very first major league hit. It was a single. Later in that same game, he hit a three-run walk-off home run, which means his home run won the game for his team!
Back in the Minors
Esix spent all of 2003 with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides. He continued to show off his speed, stealing 61 bases that season. In 2004, his batting average improved to .264, and he played one more game in the major leagues for the Mets.
