The European Cup was a yearly bandy competition for club teams in Europe. Bandy is a winter sport played on ice, similar to ice hockey but with a ball instead of a puck. The first European Cup tournament happened in 1974. The last time it was played was in 2009. It hasn't officially ended, but it hasn't been held since then.
Teams got to play in the European Cup by winning their country's national championship. This meant only four teams usually took part. These teams came from Finland, Norway, the Soviet Union (later Russia), and Sweden. Teams from the Soviet Union/Russia and Sweden were very strong. They won every single tournament.
