The European Cup was a yearly sports competition for bandy clubs in Europe. Bandy is a bit like ice hockey, but played with a ball instead of a puck, and on a larger ice rink. This exciting tournament started in 1974. The last time it was played was in 2009, but it hasn't officially ended.
How Teams Qualified
To play in the European Cup, a team had to be the champion of their own country's bandy league. This meant that usually only four teams took part each year. These teams came from Finland, Norway, the Soviet Union (later Russia), and Sweden.
Teams from the Soviet Union/Russia and Sweden were very strong in this competition. In fact, teams from these two countries won every single European Cup tournament!
European Cup Winners
Here's a list of all the teams that won the European Cup, and who they played against in the final. You can see how often teams from the Soviet Union/Russia and Sweden took home the trophy.
