History of Euxton Parish Church

This church likely started in the 1300s. It was rebuilt around 1513 by the Molyneux family. At first, it was called Burgh Chapel. It served as a small chapel for the nearby Euxton Hall. The Molyneux family owned both the chapel and Euxton Hall from the 1300s.

Originally, it was a Roman Catholic chapel. However, in the late 1600s or early 1700s, it became a Church of England church.

Architecture and Design

Outside the Church

Euxton Parish Church looks similar to the older parts of a 14th-century church in Eccleston. Over time, the church has been changed and added to. The most recent addition was a porch built in 1998. This porch was made from red sandstone, similar to the stone used in the church itself.

Inside the Church

Inside the main part of the church, called the nave, you can see some special features. There is a double piscina and sedilia. These are old stone structures used during church services. Experts believe they were built around the early 1300s.

Churchyard Features

The churchyard is the area around the church. It contains the grave of an airman who served in World War II. This grave is cared for by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
