About Eva García Sáenz de Urturi
Eva García Sáenz de Urturi was born in Vitoria-Gasteiz in 1972. When she was fifteen, she moved to Alicante, where she has lived ever since. Her journey into writing began early, at just fourteen years old. Her literature teacher at San Viator Ikastetxea School in Vitoria-Gasteiz encouraged her to write down her experiences in a diary. This simple act sparked her passion for storytelling.
Her Path to Becoming a Writer
Before becoming a full-time author, Eva studied Optics and Optometry. She worked as an optician and optometrist for a large company and later at the University of Alicante. Even while working in science, she always loved literature. She even won several awards for her early short stories.
Eva spent three years researching and writing her first novel. It was published in 2012 and was called La vieja familia (The Immortal Collection). This book was the first part of a two-book series titled La saga de los longevos (A Saga of the Ancient Family). In 2014, she released the second part, Los hijos de Adán (The Sons of Adam). That same year, she also published a historical novel called Pasaje a Tahití (Passage to Tahiti). All these books were very popular with readers.
The White City Trilogy
In 2016, Eva published El silencio de la ciudad blanca (The Silence of the White City). This exciting crime novel is set in her hometown of Vitoria-Gasteiz. It quickly became a huge international bestseller! Fans of the book even started calling themselves "krakenianos."
The book's success led to thousands of readers visiting Vitoria-Gasteiz. They wanted to follow special literary tours that showed them the real places mentioned in the book. The city of Vitoria-Gasteiz and the Basque Government even created some of these tours. This novel was the first in a series called the Trilogía de la ciudad blanca (the White City Trilogy).
Research for Her Novels
To make her stories feel real, Eva does a lot of research. For the White City Trilogy, she even took courses at a police academy. She learned about things like how to inspect crime scenes and develop fingerprints. She said that this research helped her make the novel believable and exciting without being too graphic.
The second book in the White City Trilogy was released in 2017. It was called Los ritos del agua (The Water Rituals). The final book in the trilogy, Los señores del tiempo (The Lords of Time), came out in 2018. This series has sold over one million copies, making Eva one of Spain's most successful authors.
Film Adaptation
In 2019, El silencio de la ciudad blanca was made into a movie. The film was called Twin Murders: The Silence of the White City. Famous actors like Belén Rueda, Javier Rey, and Aura Garrido starred in it, and Daniel Calparsoro directed it.
Later Works and Awards
In 2020, Eva García published another historical novel, Aquitania (Aquitaine). This book was a big success and won her the prestigious Premio Planeta de Novela. In Aquitania, she cleverly mixes historical events with a crime mystery, focusing on the life of Queen Consort Eleanor of Aquitaine.
