Evan Dimas's Early Life and Inspiration
Evan Dimas grew up in Surabaya, a city in East Java, Indonesia. His family supported him greatly in his dream to play football. He is a devoted Muslim and often performs a special prayer called Sujud after scoring a goal.
Evan looks up to Andrés Iniesta, a famous midfielder from Barcelona. Iniesta showed that even smaller players can be amazing on the world stage. As a child, Evan dreamed of playing for Persebaya Surabaya. He even started his football journey in their youth team!
Evan's Journey in Club Football
Starting in Youth Football
Evan Dimas began training at football schools in Surabaya when he was young. By 2010, at just 15 years old, he joined the youth team of Persebaya Surabaya. During these years, Evan often played for Indonesia's national youth teams.
He even got to train in Spain at Barcelona's special training facilities! In 2012, he joined the Nike Academy, a program that brought together promising young footballers from all over the world.
Becoming a Professional Player
After years of hard work in the Persebaya system, Evan was ready to play for the senior team. In November 2014, he signed his first professional contract with a part of Persebaya that later became Bhayangkara. This team was supported by the Indonesian National Police.
Evan made his first professional game appearance for Persebaya on April 5, 2015. It was a 1–0 win against Mitra Kukar in Surabaya. However, his early professional career faced a challenge when FIFA, the world football body, banned Indonesia from playing international matches for a year. This was due to problems in Indonesian football at the time.
During this ban, Persebaya tried to send Evan to Spain. He trained with clubs like UE Llagostera and RCD Espanyol's B team. Even though he didn't get a contract there, it was a great experience for him!
Success with Bhayangkara FC
When Evan Dimas came back to Indonesia in mid-2016, his team was now known as Bhayangkara. Evan joined the Bhayangkara team for the 2016 Indonesia Soccer Championship A.
The very next year, in 2017, Evan was a key player in the midfield. Bhayangkara won the 2017 Liga 1 title! This was Evan's first big trophy as a professional player. His success caught the eye of clubs outside Indonesia.
Playing in Malaysia with Selangor FA
On December 2, 2017, Evan signed a one-year contract with Selangor, a club in Malaysia. He made his first game appearance for Selangor on February 4, 2018. Selangor won that match!
Evan scored his first goal for Selangor in a 2–1 victory against PKNS. He played well in Malaysia, appearing in 20 games and scoring two goals. After one year, he decided to return to Indonesia.
Back in Indonesia: Barito Putera and Persija Jakarta
On December 26, 2018, Evan joined Barito Putera, another team in Indonesia's top league, Liga 1. He played his first game for them in January 2019. Evan scored two goals for Barito Putera during the 2019 season.
After that, Evan moved to one of Indonesia's biggest clubs, Persija Jakarta, in 2020. He made his debut for Persija on March 1, 2020, and even scored a goal in a 3–2 win! Sadly, the season was cut short after only three matches because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Returning to Bhayangkara and Joining Arema
In early 2021, Evan went back to his former club, Bhayangkara. He played 22 games for them that season.
On April 5, 2022, Evan signed with Arema. He scored his first goal for Arema on December 7, 2022, helping them win 2–0 against Dewa United. He also helped set up goals for his teammates.
In November 2023, Evan was loaned to PSIS Semarang for a short time. He scored his first goal for PSIS Semarang on March 3, 2024, in a 2–1 win.
Evan's International Career for Indonesia
Evan Dimas has been seen as a special talent in Indonesia since 2010. He was a key midfielder for Indonesia's national youth teams from age 15. He even captained the Indonesia U-17 and Indonesia U-19 teams!
He helped these youth teams win several tournaments, including the 2013 AFF U-19 Youth Championship. In that tournament, he scored five goals, making him Indonesia U-19's top scorer!
In October 2013, Evan led the Indonesia U-19 team to qualify for the 2014 AFC U-19 Championship. This was a big step towards the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He scored four goals in the qualification games, including three goals in one match against South Korea U-19!
Evan made his first game appearance for the senior Indonesia on November 11, 2014, when he was just 19 years old. He even scored a goal in that friendly match! He made his official international debut on November 28, 2014, against Laos, scoring his first official international goal.
He continued to play for the Indonesia U-23 team, helping them win a bronze medal at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games. He also won a silver medal at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines. Sadly, he got a serious injury in the final match of 2019.
