Excel is a town in Monroe County, Alabama, United States. In 2020, about 557 people lived there. The current mayor of Excel is Jenny Countryman.
Excel is known as the birthplace of Lee Roy Jordan. He was a famous linebacker for the University of Alabama and the Dallas Cowboys. Excel High School (3A) provides education for kids in and around the town.
The town of Excel officially became a town in February 1948.
History of Excel
The first people settled in Excel around 1875. The town got its name because the land was excellent for farming. Around the year 1900, a railroad came to Excel. This helped the town's economy grow. They could easily ship lumber and farm products. However, the railroad stopped running in 1935. This caused Excel's growth to slow down by 1937.
