Role in the Syrian Uprising

A Syria expert, Peter Harling, said Fadwa helped reduce violence in Homs. He said she tried to help people from her community who were being used by the government.

In one video from 2011, Fadwa said security forces were looking for her in Homs. She said they were hurting people to find out where she was hiding. To avoid capture, she cut her hair short like a boy. She also moved from house to house to stay safe. In 2012, she left Syria with her husband.
