Fairfield is a friendly area located in the western part of Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, England. It's a great place with lots of schools and a handy library for everyone to use.

The Story of Fairfield

Fairfield got its name because it used to be a big field where fun fairs were held a long time ago. This is how the area got its unique name!

Some of the oldest houses in Fairfield are found around a street called The Avenue. If you look at the houses, you'll notice that the homes in southern Fairfield, closer to Hartburn, are older than those in the northern part, near Bishopsgarth.

Fairfield's Location

Fairfield is bordered by a special area called a green belt to the south. This green belt helps separate Fairfield from its neighbour, Hartburn. At its western edge, Fairfield suddenly ends where the main town begins.

How Fairfield is Managed

Fairfield is looked after by the Stockton Borough Council. It's considered a 'ward,' which is like a local district. In June 2021, there was an idea to split Fairfield into two smaller wards. However, local councillors decided against this plan.

Schools in Fairfield

Fairfield is home to many schools, making it a great place for students of all ages.

Primary Schools

  • Rosehill is an infant school for younger children.
  • Holy Trinity is a junior school, and many students from Rosehill move on to Holy Trinity.
  • Fairfield Primary School is another option for younger students.
  • St Mark's CE VA Primary School also serves the community.
  • St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Primary School is located next to St. Patrick's Church.

Secondary Schools

  • Ian Ramsey Church of England Academy is another popular choice for older students.

Further Education

It's interesting to note that The Grangefield Academy is technically within the Fairfield ward. However, the nearby Grangefield neighbourhood is actually part of the Newtown ward, not Fairfield.

Places of Worship

Fairfield has several religious buildings that serve the community.

  • Holy Trinity with St Mark is an Anglican church located on Bedale Grove. This church was formed when St Mark's Church closed and its members joined Holy Trinity Church.
  • St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church was built in 1973. You can find it on Glenfield Road, right next to St. Patrick's Primary School.

Local Spots to Visit

Fairfield has a few places where people can relax and meet up.

  • There are three public houses, which are like local community pubs: The Rimswell, The Fairfield, and The Mitre.
  • Fairfield Library is a great place to find books and study. It's conveniently located right next to Ian Ramsey CE Academy.
