History of Faison
Faison began around 1833. It was first known as "Faison's Depot." The town was named after Henry Faison, who owned the land where it was built. A post office has been serving Faison since 1838.
Several important buildings and areas in Faison are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This list helps protect places that are important to history. These include the Faison Cemetery, the Faison Historic District, the Buckner Hill House, and the John Wesley Mallard House.
Where is Faison Located?
Faison is in the northwestern part of Duplin County. A few small areas of the town are also located about 3 miles (5 km) west in Sampson County, near Interstate 40.
U.S. Route 117 goes right through the middle of Faison. This road leads northeast to Calypso (about 3 miles away) and Goldsboro (about 21 miles away). If you go south on Route 117, you will reach Warsaw in about 8 miles. North Carolina Highway 403 goes west from Faison to Interstate 40 at Exit 355.
The United States Census Bureau says that Faison covers a total area of about 0.87 square miles (2.24 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
