Farid Mammadov (born August 30, 1991, in Baku) is a talented singer from Azerbaijan. He became famous when he represented his country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with his song "Hold Me." He finished in second place, right after Denmark.

Farid Mammadov's Early Life and Talents
Farid Mammadov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. His father, Asif Mammadov, was a professional judo athlete and loved playing rock music. His mother, Maya Mammadova, was a skilled gymnast who won a silver medal for the Soviet Union. Farid studied at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.
From a young age, Farid sang in a group called Bulbul. He was a main singer in this group for many years. He became interested in soul and jazz music when he was only 8 years old. He says that the famous singer Stevie Wonder was a big inspiration for him.
Farid also writes his own songs. One of his songs, Gal yanima (which means "Come to Me"), was performed during the selection process for Eurovision in Azerbaijan.
Besides music, Farid is also very active in sports. He practices Greco-Roman wrestling and capoeira, which is a Brazilian martial art that combines dance and acrobatics. In 2013, he took part in the opening event of an international wrestling competition called the "Gold Grand Prix." In 2015, he sang the national anthem of Azerbaijan with Sabina Babayeva at the closing ceremony of the first 2015 European Games.
Farid Mammadov at Eurovision
In March 2013, Farid won the national competition in Azerbaijan to represent his country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. This big music event was held in Malmö, Sweden, in May 2013. Farid Mammadov was the first male solo singer to represent Azerbaijan in the contest.
His performance at Eurovision was directed by Fokas Evangelinos, a Greek choreographer. Azerbaijan did very well in the 2013 competition, coming in 2nd place. They received 234 points and ten "12-point" scores, which are the highest points a country can give.
For the first time in Azerbaijan's history at Eurovision, Farid was given the Marcel Bezençon Artistic Award. This award recognizes the best artistic performance in the contest.
Life After Eurovision
In April 2016, Farid Mammadov got married in a private ceremony. He and his wife moved to Los Angeles, California. Their son was born there in January 2019.
