Farid Mammadov (born August 30, 1991, in Baku) is a talented singer from Azerbaijan. He became famous when he represented his country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with his song "Hold Me". He placed second in the competition, which was a big achievement for Azerbaijan!

About Farid Mammadov

Growing Up and Starting Music

Farid Mammadov was born in Baku. His father, Asif Mammadov, was a professional judo athlete and also loved playing rock music. His mother, Maya Mammadova, was a very good gymnast who won a silver medal for the Soviet Union.

Farid studied at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. From a young age, he loved to sing. He was part of a music group called Bulbul, led by Aybaniz Hashimova. He was a main singer in this group for many years.

Farid has been interested in soul and jazz music since he was 8 years old. He says that the famous singer Stevie Wonder has been a big inspiration for him. Farid also writes his own songs, like "Gal yanima" (Come to Me). He performed this song during the Azerbaijani Eurovision selection process.

Besides music, Farid is also a sportsman. He practices Greco-Roman wrestling and capoeira, which is a mix of martial arts and dance. In 2013, he even took part in the opening ceremony of a big international wrestling competition called the "Gold Grand Prix". In 2015, he sang the national anthem of Azerbaijan with Sabina Babayeva at the closing ceremony of the first 2015 European Games.

Singing at Eurovision

In March 2013, Farid won the competition in Azerbaijan to represent his country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. This big music contest was held in Malmö, Sweden, in May 2013. Farid was the first male solo singer to represent Azerbaijan in the contest.

His performance was directed by Fokas Evangelinos, a famous choreographer from Greece. Azerbaijan finished in 2nd place in the 2013 contest. They received ten top scores (12 points) and a total of 234 points. For the first time in Azerbaijan's history at Eurovision, Farid was given the Marcel Bezençon Artistic Award. This award celebrates the best artistic performance in the competition.

After Eurovision

In April 2016, Farid Mammadov got married to a woman named Nigar. Their wedding was a private event. The couple later moved to Los Angeles, California, in the United States. Their son was born there in January 2019.

His Music

Farid Mammadov has released several songs. His most famous song is "Hold Me", which he sang at the Eurovision Song Contest. He also released songs like "Gəl yanıma" in 2012 and "İnan" in 2013.
