History of Farmington
Farmington was officially started in 1839. It was named after a town called Farmington, Connecticut. The town became an official city on January 11, 1841.
Floods and City Park
Farmington is located near the Des Moines River. Because of this, the city has faced several big floods. A very large flood happened in 1993. This flood caused a lot of damage to buildings close to the river.
After this big flood, many damaged houses were removed. The city bought the land to create a new green space. This area is now called "Wild Rose City Park." It is a place for everyone to enjoy.
