Fee Fi Fo Yum was a fun British children's television game show. It was hosted by Les Dennis. In the show, two teams of five kids, called "humunchies," played games. They competed on the giant dinner table of Brian the Giant, played by Nigel Cooper. The team that lost the final game was then "eaten" by the giant. The show first aired in 2010 on BBC One's CBBC channel. It had two seasons, each with 13 episodes.

How the Show Worked

Fee Fi Fo Yum pretended to be broadcast on a made-up channel called Giant Television (GTV). It even had funny fake commercials for products that giants might use!

Some of these silly ads included:

  • "The Guff Muffler": A device to quiet noisy giants.
  • "Bot-Buster": Beans for giants who had trouble with "guffing."
  • "Grimo": A washing powder that made stains, instead of removing them!
  • "Stinks": A giant deodorant that came in strange smells like cabbage or sewage.
  • "Nan in a Can": A canned meat product, like Spam, supposedly made from old ladies.

The show also featured weather reports from Windy Wendy. She was GTV's weather girl and Brian the Giant's secret crush. Jim Elastic also showed giant-sized exercise routines.

Two teams of five children played four main rounds. These rounds helped them earn extra time for the final game, called "The Great Escape."

The four main rounds were:

  • The Great Escape: A physical game where two players from each team tried to hit targets.
  • Les’s Tasty Challenge: Each team guessed how many mouthfuls of a mystery meal Les Dennis could eat in 30 seconds.
  • A Physical Puzzle Game: The three remaining players worked together. One player often went into a giant soup while the other two solved a puzzle.
  • Ad Analysis: This was a quick buzzer round. Teams answered five questions about the funny fake commercials they had just seen.

Winning the first three rounds gave a team a five-second "lifeline." Each correct answer in "Ad Analysis" gave a two-second lifeline. These lifelines were important for the final challenge!

Episodes

The first season of Fee Fi Fo Yum aired from September 10, 2010, to December 3, 2010, on BBC One. It was also shown again on BBC Two and the CBBC channel. The show was popular enough to get a second season. Season 2 aired from May 27, 2011, to August 26, 2011. After that, Fee Fi Fo Yum was cancelled and has not been shown again. Only a couple of short video clips from the show can still be found on its old official website.

Game Challenges

Winning these games gave the teams a 5-second "life" for the final round. In the "Ad Analysis" game, each correct answer gave 2 seconds.

Fast-Food Challenges

  • Chop Chop – Brian the Giant hates peas in his chow mein. Teams had to use giant chopsticks to move peas onto their plate. The team with the most peas won!
  • Feed Me – Brian loves sprouts and meatballs. Teams used catapults made from matches and plasters. They fired sprouts and meatballs into Brian's mouth. The team that fed him the most won.
  • Beans on Toast – Brian enjoys beans on toast. Teams used teaspoons attached to matches as catapults. They launched beans onto toast. The team with the most beans on their toast won.
  • Keep Me Sweet – Brian likes his tea very sweet. Teams used teaspoons attached to matches. They fired sugar cubes into a giant teacup. The team with the most sugar lumps won.

Les' Tasty Challenge

  • Brian would secretly put Les Dennis's least favorite food in front of him. Les had 30 seconds to eat it. Before the challenge, both teams guessed how many mouthfuls Les would eat. The team with the closest guess won the lifeline.

Jigsaw Challenges

  • Lucky Numbers – Brian wanted the humunchies to make his lucky number. He put his fridge magnets into lime jelly. Three humunchies worked together. One was in the bowl, and two helped from outside. They had to find the number magnets and place them on tinfoil. They could only carry 5 magnets at a time. The first team to make the correct sum for Brian's lucky number won.
  • Alphabet Soup – Brian loved to play with his alphabet soup. Teams had to take letters out of the soup. They then put them onto toast. They could only carry 8 letters at a time. The team that made the longest word won a lifeline.
  • Chip of the Old Block – Brian made little friends called "Spuddies" from potatoes. They were like Mr Potato Head toys. One humunchie went into tomato soup or blancmange. They chose which potato part to place. The other two teammates helped decide where it went. The first team to build an identical Spuddy won.
  • Biccie Break – Brian accidentally dropped his "Choccie Gob" biscuits into custard or blancmange. One humunchie had to search for each biscuit piece (milk or white chocolate). They passed the pieces to their two teammates. The first team to rebuild their biscuit won.

The Great Escape

For the final round, Brian didn't choose the players. The teams had to pick one person to play "The Great Escape." Brian had locked the rest of their teammates in the "Scales of Justice." Only one team could free them!

The player faced five tough obstacles:

  • The Doughnut Dash: A speed challenge through a path of tires.
  • The Kitchen Roll Crawl: A tunnel (made from kitchen roll) filled with meatballs to slow them down.
  • The Rolling Pin Run: A balance beam made from a rolling pin. Brian swung two teabags to make it harder.
  • The Choc-bar Challenge: A challenge where players had to build a path to Brian's bowl using chocolate bars.
  • The Slippery Slope to the Rope: Once in the bowl, they had to climb a slippery slope to freedom.

The team whose player reached the top of the slope first pulled a rope. This released their victorious teammates, who slid down a "freedom chute." The other team was then "eaten" by Brian.

Sometimes, both players managed to free their teams. In that case, both teams won, and Brian was not happy! However, the round could also end if Brian got tired of waiting. He might stop the players and decide to "eat" both teams. Les Dennis would accept this because Brian was the boss. In this rare case, both teams would lose.
