Felix Likiniano
Felix Likiniano was a brave Basque anarchist.

Felix Likiniano (also known as Liki) was a Basque man who believed in a special way of organizing society called anarchism. He was born in Eskoriatza, Gipuzkoa, in 1909 and passed away in Biarritz, Labourd, in 1982.

Liki was known for his strong beliefs and his actions during a difficult time in Spain's history.

Liki's Role in the Spanish Civil War

During the Spanish Civil War, which was a big fight in Spain, Felix Likiniano played an important part. When a group of people called fascists tried to take over the city of San Sebastián, Liki helped defend it. He stopped their advance into the city center.

Later, other fighters from a group called the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) joined him. Together, they pushed back the fascists and took control of their military headquarters.

Continuing the Fight

After San Sebastián was taken by the fascists, Liki did not give up. He continued to fight along the border between Gipuzkoa and Navarre. He then moved to other parts of Spain, like Aragon and Catalonia, to keep resisting.

He even joined the French Resistance in France during World War II, fighting against the Nazi occupation. Liki also tried to create small groups of fighters, called guerrillas, along the border between France and Spain.

His Legacy and Symbol

Felix Likiniano created a special symbol: an axe and a serpent. This symbol was later used by other groups.

Liki also had a friend named Federico Krutwig. They both believed that anarchism could be connected with Basque nationalism, which is a strong feeling of pride and identity for the Basque people.

In the early 1990s, some young people in Bilbao who shared similar ideas created a cultural group named after Felix Likiniano. This group, called Felix Likiniano Kultur Elkartea, worked to promote culture and ideas. It eventually closed in 2006.
