Fernando Primo de Rivera y Sobremonte, 1st Marquess of Estella (born July 24, 1831 – died May 23, 1921) was an important Spanish politician and soldier. He served his country in many ways. He was a general in the army and later became a governor.

Early Life and Military Career
Fernando Primo de Rivera was born in Sevilla, Spain. His family had a history of serving Spain. His grandfather, Bértrand Primo de Rivera, was a Spanish general. He fought against Napoleon Bonaparte's forces.
Fighting in Spain
Fernando followed in his family's footsteps. He joined the military and fought in several wars. He helped put down rebellions in Madrid in 1848 and 1866. He also fought in the second Carlist War. This was a civil war in Spain.
Becoming the Marquess of Estella
During the Carlist War, Fernando led his troops to capture the city of Estella. This was a very important victory. Because of this success, he was given a special title. He became the 1st Marquess of Estella. This title showed his bravery and leadership.
Governor of the Philippines
Fernando Primo de Rivera served as the Spanish Governor-General of the Philippines twice. This was a very important job. He was in charge of the Spanish colony there.

He received many honors for his service. He became a Knight of the Spanish Order of the Golden Fleece. This is one of the most important awards in Spain. He also received a high honor from Portugal.
