Field hockey at the 2023 Pan American Games - Argentina vs Canada - 59
Argentina vs Canada women's field hockey match

Get ready for some exciting Field hockey action! The field hockey games at the 2023 Pan American Games took place in Santiago, Chile. These big games happened from October 25 to November 4, 2023.

This was the 15th time field hockey was part of the Pan American Games. Eight men's teams and eight women's teams competed. Each team had up to 16 athletes. All the games were played at the Field Hockey Training Center in Santiago. The best part? The winning team in both the men's and women's tournaments earned a spot in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France!

How Teams Qualified

Eight men's and eight women's teams got to play in the tournament. Chile, as the host country, automatically qualified for both tournaments.

Other teams qualified by doing well in other big sports events:

  • The top two teams from the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.
  • The top two teams from the 2022 South American Games.
  • The top three teams from the 2022 Men's and Women's Pan American Cup who hadn't already qualified.

If Canada or the United States still hadn't qualified, they would have played a special playoff game. But if they both qualified, that playoff wasn't needed.
