The company began a long time ago, around the year 1900. George Filbert and his family had a delivery business. They used horse-drawn wagons to bring milk, ice, and coal to homes. This was in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago.
In 1926, the Filbert family started making root beer. It became very popular during a time called Prohibition. During Prohibition, it was against the law to sell alcoholic drinks. So, people enjoyed non-alcoholic options like root beer even more.
Filbert's root beer was made in large half-barrels. It was mostly sold to places like taverns in five nearby states. Today, Filbert's is still a family business. It is run by Ronald Filbert.
