Filip Filipović (born 2 May 1987) is a Serbian professional water polo player. Many people think he is one of the best water polo players ever! He was part of the Serbia men's national water polo team that won bronze medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. He then helped them win gold medals in 2016 and 2020.
Filipović also won world titles in 2009 and 2015. He has won many European titles too, in 2003, 2006, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018. He was named the Most Valuable Player at the 2011 World Championships. The FINA magazine also voted him the "World Player of the Year" four times: in 2009, 2011, 2014, and 2021. He played for Pro Recco in Italy and won many important championships with them. He currently plays for Novi Beograd.
Filipović had the special honor of carrying the Serbian flag at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. This made him one of the few water polo players to be a flag bearer at the Olympics.

Filip's Club Journey
Filip Filipović has played for several top water polo clubs around the world. He started his career in Serbia and then moved to play in Italy, Hungary, and Greece.
Playing for Pro Recco
Filipović played for Pro Recco, a famous water polo club in Italy, for many years. He had two different periods with them. During his time there, he helped the team win many important titles.
In February 2010, Filipović and his teammate Udovičić took part in a special charity match in Italy. They played to help people in Haiti after a big earthquake. All the money raised from the match went to help those in need.
Filipović was a key player for Pro Recco. He scored many goals and helped the team win the LEN Champions League three times. This is one of the biggest club competitions in European water polo. He also won the LEN Super Cup three times with Pro Recco.
Other Clubs and Successes
After his first time at Pro Recco, Filipović played for Radnički Kragujevac in Serbia. He helped them win the LEN Trophy in 2012–13.
Later, he played for Szolnoki Vízilabda in Hungary, where he won the LEN Euro Cup and the Hungarian Championship. He then moved to Olympiacos in Greece, winning the Greek Championship and Cup multiple times.
Most recently, he joined Novi Beograd, where he has continued to achieve success, winning the Adriatic Water polo League and the Serbian Water Polo Cup.
Filip's National Team Career
Filipović has been a very important player for the Serbia men's national water polo team. He has played over 381 games for his country and scored more than 677 goals!
He won his third gold medal at the European Championship in 2012. In the final game against Montenegro, he scored a goal that helped his team win 9–8.
At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Filipović was the top goal scorer. He scored 19 goals, helping Serbia win the gold medal. He also led his team to another Olympic gold medal in 2020.
Filip's Achievements and Awards
Filipović has won an amazing 35 medals with his national team. These include gold medals at the World Championships in 2009 and 2015. He also won gold medals and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the Olympics in 2016 and 2020.
He has received many individual awards for being an outstanding player:
- He was named the FINA "World Player of the Year" four times (2009, 2011, 2014, 2021).
- Swimming World Magazine also named him "World Player of the Year" three times (2014, 2016, 2021).
- The LEN (European Aquatics) named him "European Player of the Year" five times (2009, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2021).
- He was chosen as the Sportsman of The Year by the Serbian Olympic Committee in 2016 and 2021.
- He has been named the Serbian Water Polo Player of the Year many times.
- He was the top scorer at the 2009 World Championship and the MVP at the 2011 World Championship.
- He has also been named MVP and top scorer in many club competitions like the LEN Champions League and the Adriatic Water polo League.
Filip's Family Life
Filip Filipović is married to Sanja, and they have two children, a son and a daughter.
