Flat Creek begins in White County, right near its border with Hall County. This starting point, called the source, is northeast of a town called Clermont.

The creek starts by flowing southwest. Then, it makes a sharp turn south when two smaller streams join it. These smaller streams also begin in White County.

As Flat Creek enters Hall County, it continues south. It then curves slowly to the southwest for about 2.3 miles, crossing State Route 283 east of Clermont. After that, it turns south again, flowing north of State Route 52 and east of Brookton.

The creek then changes direction to the southeast. Another small stream joins it right as it crosses State Route 52. Flat Creek continues southeast for about 5 miles, picking up more small streams along the way. Finally, it makes a sharp turn east before joining the Chattahoochee River. This meeting point is just west of U.S. Route 23 and south of where State Route 52 crosses the river. It flows into the northeastern part of Lake Lanier.

Flat Creek's Water Area

The area of land that drains water into Flat Creek is called its watershed. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has given this watershed a special code: HUC 031300010304. It's officially named the Flat Creek-Chattahoochee River sub-watershed.

This watershed covers about 47 square miles. It stretches from northeast of Clermont to northwest of Lula, and it's located north of the Chattahoochee River. All the rain and smaller streams in this area eventually flow into Flat Creek.
