Foley County was a county in Texas that doesn't exist anymore. It was located in the Big Bend area of West Texas. Today, this land is part of Brewster County.
A Short History of Foley County
On March 15, 1887, the Texas government made a new law. This law split Presidio County into four smaller counties. These new counties were Presidio, Jeff Davis, Foley, and Buchel.
Foley County did not have many people living there. In 1890, a count of the population, called a Census, found only 25 residents. Most of these people lived in the small towns of Study Butte and Terlingua.
In 1889, Foley County and its neighbor, Buchel County, were joined with the original Brewster County. This was done to help with land surveying, which is like mapping out the land. Then, in 1897, both Foley and Buchel counties were officially ended. Their land became part of Brewster County.
