The knockout stage of the women's football tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics was played from 3 to 10 August 2024. This part of the tournament was like the playoffs in other sports. How the Games Worked

In the knockout stage, every game was super important. If a match was tied after the normal playing time, the teams played extra time. This meant two more periods of 15 minutes each. If the score was still tied after extra time, they went to a penalty shoot-out. This is where players take turns kicking the ball at the goal, with only the goalkeeper defending. The team that scores more penalties wins the game! This way, there was always a clear winner for each match.

Quarter-finals

The quarter-finals were the first round of the knockout stage. Eight teams played, and only four could move on to the semi-finals.

This game was a rematch of the 2012 Olympic final. The U.S. had won that game 2–1. These two teams also played in the 2011 and 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup finals, so they know each other well!
