A Look at Footville's Past
In the early 1800s, Footville was an important stop. It was on a stagecoach road that connected different towns. This road ran from Salem west to Wilkesboro. Footville was also the halfway point between Salisbury and Wilkesboro.
Travelers often stayed at the Footville Inn. Major James H. Foote first built this inn. Later, in 1863, Andy Laugenour acquired the house. This historic home still stands today. It once served as the only store and post office for the community. Another old brick home, the Laugenour House, was built in 1853 and is also in Footville.
An atlas from 1895 recorded the community's population. At that time, only 20 people lived in Footville.
