Ford City is a place in Kern County, California, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that looks like a town but isn't officially governed as one.
Ford City is about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of Taft. It sits at an elevation of 892 feet (272 meters) above sea level. In 2020, about 4,348 people lived there. The town is located between two large oil fields: the Midway-Sunset Oil Field and the Buena Vista Oil Field. State Route 119 runs east of Ford City.

Ford City started as a town that grew quickly because of the oil industry. It was named after the Ford Motor Company. This was because there were so many Ford Model T cars in the area during the oil boom.
