Fowler is a small town in Indiana, United States. It is the main town, or "county seat," of Benton County. In 2020, about 2,337 people lived there. Fowler is also part of the larger Lafayette area.

History of Fowler
Fowler was officially started by Moses and Eliza Fowler on October 26, 1872. They first planned out 583 building lots. Later, in 1875, the town was expanded to include 1,602 lots and 20 blocks. More parts were added to the town over the years.
The very first home in Fowler was built in March 1871. The first business, a small general store, opened in June of that same year. Many other businesses soon followed, like a grocery store and grain elevators. In 1874, Fowler became the county seat, which means it became the main town for the county government. Before this, the county seat was in a nearby town called Oxford.
The town officially became a town in 1875. It grew very quickly! By 1883, Fowler had many different businesses and services. These included lawyers, doctors, stores, a hotel, restaurants, and two churches. The town had about 1,200 people living there at that time.
Today, Fowler is home to the Fowler Ridge Wind Farm, which uses wind turbines to create electricity. Several important buildings in Fowler are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Benton County Courthouse, the Fowler Theatre, and the Fraser & Isham Law Office.
Geography and Location
Fowler is located in a part of Benton County called Center Township. Important roads like U.S. Route 52 and State Road 18 pass right through the town. State Road 55 also goes through Fowler. Another major road, U.S. Route 41, crosses U.S. Route 52 a few miles northwest of town.
According to information from 2010, Fowler covers an area of about 1.41 square miles (3.67 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a very small part being water.
