The Fox Range is a mountain range located in the eastern part of Washoe County, Nevada. It's a natural landmark in the desert landscape of the state.
About the Fox Range
This mountain range stretches for about 24 miles (39 km) from north to south. It is about 9 miles (14 km) wide from east to west. The total area of the Fox Range is around 150 square miles (388 square km). The highest point in the range is called Pah-Rum Peak. This peak stands tall at 2,319 meters (7,608 feet) above sea level.
Where is the Fox Range?
The Fox Range is surrounded by several interesting places in Nevada.
- To the north and northeast, you'll find the town of Gerlach. Also in this direction are the famous Black Rock Desert and the Granite Range.
- East of the Fox Range, across the San Emidio Desert and Poito Valley, is the Selenite Range.
- To the southeast, you can see the Lake Range.
- Further south is the beautiful Pyramid Lake.
- The Smoke Creek Desert lies to the west of the range.
The Pyramid Lake Reservation
A significant part of the southern Fox Range belongs to the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation. This reservation is home to the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe. They have lived in this area for a very long time.
