Frankfort is a small village located in Herkimer County, New York, United States. It is part of the larger town of Frankfort. The village is named after an early settler called Lawrence (Lewis) Frank.
Frankfort is found on the south side of the Erie Canal. It is also located east of the city of Utica, New York. In 2020, about 2,320 people lived in the village.

Village History
The area where Frankfort village now stands was first settled before 1807. The village officially became a recognized community in 1863. This means it gained its own local government.
Two important buildings in Frankfort are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These are the Frankfort Town Hall and the United States Post Office. This listing helps protect them because of their historical importance.
Geography of Frankfort
Frankfort village is located in the northeastern part of the town of Frankfort. It covers a total area of about 1.03 square miles (2.67 square kilometers). Only a very small part of this area is water.
The Mohawk River forms the northern border of the village. A stream called Moyer Creek flows through Frankfort and into the Mohawk River.
Roads and Nearby Areas
Frankfort is at the northern end of New York State Route 171. This road is also known as Litchfield Street. The old New York State Route 5S (Main Street) also passes through the village. The newer NY 5S road goes around the village to the south and west. It connects Frankfort to Utica, which is about 10 miles (16 km) to the west. It also connects to Ilion, about 2.5 miles (4 km) to the southeast.
North Frankfort is a community located between Frankfort and the Mohawk River. Other nearby communities include East Frankfort to the southeast and Corrado Corners to the southwest.
