Frederick W. Strahorn (born March 20, 1965) is an American politician from the Democratic Party. He served in the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 39th District. This district covers a large part of Dayton, Ohio. He was also the Minority Leader for the 131st and 132nd Ohio General Assemblies.

Fred Strahorn's Journey in Politics

Fred Strahorn was a member of the Wright State University Board of Trustees until 2013. He studied at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He also earned a degree in aviation management from Ohio State University. Later, he took real estate classes at Sinclair Community College.

Strahorn first won an election to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2000. He was re-elected three more times in 2002, 2004, and 2006. Because of rules about how long someone can serve, he could not run for the same district again. So, he decided to run for a different district in 2012.

In 2008, Strahorn received a special award from the Dayton Unit NAACP. This award was called the President's Award. It was given to him by Derrick L. Foward, who was the president of the Dayton NAACP.

The next year, Strahorn was chosen to join the Ohio Senate. He took the place of Tom Roberts, who had moved to the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. However, Strahorn did not win the election for a full term in the Senate. He lost to Bill Beagle, a Republican.

His Return to the Ohio House

On August 12, 2012, Fred Strahorn was chosen as the Democratic candidate for a position in the Ohio House. This happened at the Democratic headquarters in Montgomery County. He received almost all the votes from his party.

In November 2012, Strahorn won his election. He defeated his opponent, Jeffrey Wellbaum, with more than 80% of the votes. This district usually votes for Democratic candidates. Strahorn ran to fill the position that had become open in January 2013. The previous representative, Clayton Luckie, had decided not to run again.

Strahorn won his re-election easily in 2014. He received over 75% of the votes. His opponents were Jeff Dalton from the Republican Party and William Pace, an independent candidate.

On November 18, 2014, Strahorn was chosen as the Minority Leader of the Ohio House. This means he was the main leader for the Democratic Party in the House. Strahorn said he wanted to help people understand what the Democratic Party stands for. He was chosen for this leadership role again in 2016.

Around 2016, Strahorn gave a powerful speech about workers' rights. He spoke against actions that tried to stop workers from forming unions at the Fuyao Glass America plant in Moraine. He praised workers who chose to join the UAW union. His speech was later shown in a 2019 documentary film called American Factory.
