The Underwater Mystery Begins
The story starts deep in the Atlantic Ocean. Freddi Fish visits her friend, Grandma Grouper. Grandma Grouper is very sad. She tells Freddi that her special treasure chest of kelp seeds has been stolen! Because of this, her garden is wilting, and there's no food. Freddi bravely promises to find the missing kelp seeds. This makes Grandma Grouper smile, and she gives Freddi her last peanut butter and jellyfish sandwich for the journey.
After leaving Grandma Grouper's house, Freddi finds her friend Luther. Luther is trying to swim in circles. Freddi shows him how to do it. Luther tries again, but he bumps his head on some coral. A bottle falls loose and lands on the ground. Freddi and Luther look inside the bottle. They find a note with a clue about where the treasure is! So, Freddi and Luther begin their search for the missing kelp seeds.
The Sharky Suspects
At the same time, we learn who took the kelp seeds. Two sharks named Spongehead and Boss stole them. They wanted to help the Squidfather grow kelp. Spongehead had hidden the treasure and left bottles with directions to find it again. But Boss is angry because Spongehead can't remember where the treasure is or where he put the clue bottles. Boss takes Spongehead to the Squidfather for punishment.
The Squidfather is very mad when he hears this. He even spits out ink! Spongehead gets scared and suddenly remembers where the treasure is. So, the two sharks quickly go to get it.
Finding the Treasure
Freddi and Luther follow the clues. The last clue leads them to a sunken ship. They find the treasure there! But just as they grab it, Spongehead and Boss appear. The sharks want the treasure for themselves.
Freddi explains that the kelp treasure is for everyone to share. The sharks then agree to share it. Freddi and Luther take the treasure. They spread the kelp seeds around so everyone can have some. They also plant them in Grandma Grouper's garden. Finally, Freddi, Luther, and Grandma Grouper all go inside her house. This is how the game ends.
How to Play the Game
Freddi Fish and the Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds is an adventure game that is easy to play. You use your mouse to click on different things on the screen. Clicking lets Freddi pick up items, go to new places, or talk to other characters. You can also find fun little surprises by clicking around.
If you click on an item in the right spot, Freddi will use it. Most puzzles in the game involve trading items with characters. You also use items to reach areas that are blocked. To make the game different each time you play, the locations of the clue bottles and the paths to the treasure chest change.
Fun Mini-Games
The game also has a few mini-games. One popular mini-game is called "Jellyfish Jamboree". In this game, Freddi has to throw food at waves of jellyfish. You must stop them before they get too close. Luther helps by keeping score. This "Jellyfish Jamboree" mini-game was so popular that it became the main part of the handheld LCD game version.
