About Freddie Jackson

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

After school, Freddie joined Paul's group, LJE (Laurence Jones Ensemble). They performed in nightclubs around New York. In the late 1970s, Freddie moved to the West Coast. He became the lead singer for a band called Mystic Merlin. He released three albums with them. Soon after, he returned to New York to work with Paul Laurence.

Becoming a Solo Star

In the early 1980s, Freddie sang on demo recordings of Paul Laurence's songs. He also sang backup for singer Melba Moore. In 1984, Freddie signed a recording contract with Capitol Records.

His album Don't Let Love Slip Away (1988) featured two more R&B number one hits: "Hey Lover" and "Nice 'N' Slow." In 1989, Freddie appeared on the TV show The Golden Girls. He sang the Disney song "It's a Small World" on the show. He also sang the duet "Love Survives" with Irene Cara for the movie All Dogs Go to Heaven.
