Free Home is a small community in the eastern part of Cherokee County, Georgia, United States. It's not a city, but a place where people live without a local government.

You can find Free Home right where two state highways meet: Highway 20 and Highway 372. This area used to be very rural, but since the late 1990s, more homes have been built there. Free Home Elementary School is located in this community.

Free Home is located about halfway between Ball Ground to the north and Milton to the south. It's also about halfway between Canton (to the west) and Cumming (to the east). These two cities are the main towns for Cherokee and Forsyth counties. The Little River starts as a small stream just southeast of Free Home.

How Free Home Got Its Name

The community of Free Home was named by a man named Captain Delevan Lively. He owned a lot of land in this part of Cherokee County. During a time when many people found it hard to buy land, Captain Lively came up with a special offer.

He told people they could build a house on his land for free. The only condition was that the land would go back to him if they ever moved away. Because Captain Lively offered this "free home" to anyone who wanted to build, the community became known as Free Home.
