Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Freshwater Bay is a beautiful bay located on the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia. It's about 5 kilometers (3 miles) upstream from where the river meets the ocean at Fremantle. This lovely bay is surrounded by several suburbs like Dalkeith, Claremont, Mosman Park, and Peppermint Grove.

The bay got its name from Henry Charles Prinsep (1844-1922). He named it after a place called Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight in England, where he had a holiday home called The Chine.
