Frucor Suntory is a big company that makes and sells drinks. It's based in Auckland, New Zealand, but it's owned by a Japanese company called Suntory.
Frucor is super famous for its V energy drink. This popular drink first came out in 1997. You can find V energy drink in many places around the world, including Europe, South Africa, and Argentina. Frucor also works with other well-known companies like PepsiCo, Danone, and Sanitarium to sell their drinks.
How Frucor Started
Frucor was created in 1962 by the New Zealand Apple and Pear Board. Their very first product was a juice called Fresh Up. In 1978, a famous New Zealand Olympic runner, John Walker, helped promote Fresh Up. He used the catchy phrase, "Fresh Up – it's got to be good for you!"
The New Zealand Apple and Pear Board owned Frucor until 1998. Then, a company called Pacific Equity Partners bought Frucor. In 1999, Frucor became the only company allowed to bottle Pepsi products in New Zealand. A year later, in 2000, Frucor launched its V energy drink in the UK and Ireland. These drinks were made in the Netherlands.
Growing Bigger
In 2001, Forbes magazine recognized Frucor as one of the top 20 companies for 2002. In January 2002, a large French company called Groupe Danone bought Frucor. Later that year, Frucor also bought an Australian fruit juice company called Spring Valley.
In 2007, Frucor teamed up with MySpace for a special job promotion campaign. This was a new kind of partnership in Australia. In October 2008, Groupe Danone sold Frucor to the Japanese company Suntory.
In January 2011, Frucor launched the V energy drink in Spain. By June of that year, it was already being sold in 8,000 stores! In 2013, Frucor even sponsored the IGN Australia Black Beta Select Awards. In June 2017, Frucor Beverages changed its name to Frucor Suntory. This new name helped it better connect with its parent company, Suntory.
