Fushimi (伏見区, Fushimi-ku) is one of the eleven wards in the city of Kyoto, Japan. It's a really interesting place with lots of history and cool spots to visit.
Some famous places in Fushimi include the amazing Fushimi Inari Shrine. It has thousands of bright orange torii gates that line paths up and down a mountain. There's also Fushimi Castle, which was first built by a powerful leader named Toyotomi Hideyoshi. You can see its rebuilt towers and even a special tea-room that used to be covered in gold! Another important spot is the Teradaya, an old inn where a famous samurai, Sakamoto Ryōma, was attacked. The Gokōgu shrine is also here, known for its special stone used in the castle and its incredibly clear water, which is one of Japan's best.
The name Fushimi means "hidden water" or "underground water." This is because the area has always been known for its excellent spring water. This soft water is perfect for making a special kind of sake, which is a Japanese drink. That's why Fushimi became a major center for sake brewing in Kyoto. Today, it's the second biggest sake-producing area in Japan. A famous sake company called Gekkeikan started here.
