Fábio Rochemback (born 10 December 1981) is a Brazilian former professional footballer. He played as a midfielder, which is a player who helps both attack and defense.
Throughout his career, Fábio played for two big rival teams in his home state of Rio Grande do Sul: Internacional and Grêmio. He joined Barcelona at just 19 years old. Later, he helped Sporting CP reach the 2005 UEFA Cup Final. He also spent three years playing for Middlesbrough in the Premier League, and played in another big game, the 2006 UEFA Cup Final.
Fábio Rochemback played seven games for the Brazilian national team. He represented his country in the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2001 Copa América.

Club Career
Barcelona
Fábio Rochemback was born in Soledade, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He started his football journey with Sport Club Internacional. In July 2001, when he was 19, he moved to FC Barcelona in Spain. The transfer fee was about €15 million.
Many thought Fábio would replace the famous captain Pep Guardiola. Fábio played with a lot of physical strength and had a powerful shot. He played for Barcelona for two full seasons. During this time, he appeared in 68 games and scored four goals. One memorable goal was a long-distance shot in a UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool in November 2001.
Loan to Sporting CP
In July 2003, Fábio Rochemback went on loan to Sporting CP in Portugal for one year. This was part of a deal that also saw another player, Ricardo Quaresma, move to Barcelona.
In his second season with Sporting, Fábio helped the team reach the final of the 2004–05 UEFA Cup. He scored a fantastic goal from a free kick against Feyenoord. He also scored in a big win against Newcastle United in the quarter-finals. In the final match, which was played at Sporting's home stadium, he played the whole game. However, Sporting lost 3–1 to PFC CSKA Moscow.
Middlesbrough
Fábio Rochemback caught the eye of Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren. This happened during a UEFA Cup game earlier in 2005. On the last day of the transfer window, 31 August 2005, Fábio signed a five-year contract with the English club.
He made his first league appearance for Middlesbrough on 10 September. This was in a 2–1 home win against Arsenal. His first goal for the club came on 11 February 2006. It was in a 3–0 victory against Chelsea, who were the league leaders at the time.
Fábio also scored an important FA Cup goal from a free kick. This helped Middlesbrough win 4–2 against Charlton Athletic. He played a key role in Middlesbrough's journey to the 2006 UEFA Cup Final. He was even named "man of the match" in a crucial quarter-final game against FC Basel.
He scored another amazing free kick in Middlesbrough's last game of the 2007–08 Premier League season. This was in a huge 8–1 win over Manchester City in May 2008.
Return to Sporting CP
On 13 May 2008, Fábio Rochemback left Middlesbrough. He then signed a three-year deal to return to Sporting CP on the same day.
Grêmio
In August 2009, Fábio signed a two-year contract with Grêmio in Brazil. He extended his contract with the club until the end of 2012.
Dalian
In January 2012, Grêmio confirmed that Fábio Rochemback was moving to China. He joined the Chinese Super League club Dalian Aerbin. He played for them until the end of 2013.
Return to Brazil
After leaving China, Fábio Rochemback returned to Brazil. In January 2014, he was close to signing a deal with Sport. However, the agreement did not go through.
In June 2014, he joined an amateur club called Ipiranga in Passo Fundo. He helped them win a local amateur tournament that year.
International Career
Fábio Rochemback played seven games for the Brazilian national team. All of these games were in competitions during 2001. He made his first appearance on 31 May in the team's opening game of the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup. He played in all five games as Brazil finished in fourth place. A few weeks later, he also played in the 2001 Copa América in Colombia.
