The History of Galena's Name

Later, before 1813, the name was changed to Georgetown Cross Roads. Finally, in 1858, it became Galena. The name "Galena" comes from a type of lead ore. People thought there was a silver mine nearby that got silver from this ore. However, scientists have not found any evidence of galena deposits in this part of Maryland. So, the story about the silver mine is likely just a legend.
