Garden City is a small city in Cass County, Missouri, in the United States. It is located in the southeastern part of the county. The city is also part of the larger Kansas City metropolitan area.
In 2010, about 1,642 people lived in Garden City. By 2020, the population was 1,629.

History of Garden City
Garden City was officially started in 1885. It got its name because the soil nearby was very good for farming. A post office has been open in Garden City since 1875.
The O'Bannon Homestead, an old home, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. This means it is an important historical site.
Geography and Location
Garden City is located along Highway 7 in Missouri. The beginning of Panther Creek is just southeast of the city.
The United States Census Bureau says that Garden City covers about 2.51 square miles (6.50 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 2.47 square miles (6.40 square kilometers), is land. A small part, about 0.04 square miles (0.10 square kilometers), is water.

In 2020, Garden City had 1,629 residents. The average age of people living there was 36.5 years old. The average income for a household was $55,150.
Between 2019 and 2020, the population grew by 12%. Most residents, about 86.3%, were White (non-Hispanic). White residents were the largest group by far.

2010 Population Details
According to the 2010 census, there were 1,642 people living in Garden City. There were 650 households and 436 families. The city had about 664.8 people per square mile.
Most people in the city were White (97.4%). Other groups included African American (0.2%), Native American (0.9%), and Asian (0.2%). About 1.7% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
About 38.6% of households had children under 18. Many households (48.8%) were married couples. The average household had 2.53 people, and the average family had 3.06 people.
The average age in the city was 33.1 years. About 29.2% of residents were under 18. About 11.2% were 65 years or older. The population was almost evenly split between males (49.3%) and females (50.7%).
Education in Garden City
Public schools in Garden City are part of the Sherwood Cass R-VIII School District. This district is located in Creighton, Missouri. It includes one elementary school, one middle school, and Sherwood High School. Roughly 900 students attend these schools from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Garden City also has a public library. It is a branch of the Cass County Public Library system.
Garden City Fire Protection District
The Garden City Fire Protection District was started in 1972 by the people living in the area and the State of Missouri. Before that, a fire association had provided fire services since the 1800s. The fire department was completely volunteer until July 2001, when it hired its first full-time employee.
The Fire Protection District protects over 94 square miles of land. It has two fire stations. One is at 300 Main Street in Garden City. The second station is in Dayton, Missouri.
Currently, the department has 15 part-time staff and 15 volunteers. They have staff working 24 hours a day. They also operate an EMS (Emergency Medical Services) unit. The department has many vehicles, including:

- A 2020 Spartan Engine (E96)
- A 2019 two-seat engine (E92)
- A 2006 3000-gallon Tanker (T97)
- A 1996 Ford Brush unit

Brush 91 and 96, EMS 98, and Engine 92 are located at Station 2. The department also has two command vehicles: Chief 1 (a 2022 Ford Explorer) and Command 91 (a 2024 Dodge Durango).
The Fire District's fire insurance rating is a Class 6 within the city limits. Outside the city limits, where there are no fire hydrants, it is a Class 9.
