Gareth David Lloyd (born 28 March 1981), who is known professionally as Gareth David-Lloyd, is a Welsh actor, writer, and singer. They are most famous for playing the character Ianto Jones in the British science fiction TV show Torchwood.

Early Life and First Roles
Gareth David-Lloyd was born in Bettws, Newport, in Wales. Their very first acting role was playing a robot in a school play.
As a teenager, they joined two youth theaters: the Gwent Young People's Theatre in Abergavenny and The Dolman Youth Theatre in Newport. While there, they acted in famous plays like Macbeth and Henry V, where they played the main character.
After high school, Gareth studied Performing Arts at Crosskeys College. One day, a former leader of the Labour Party, Neil Kinnock, saw Gareth perform at Monmouth Castle. He was so impressed that he sent them £250 to help with their acting career.

Music Career
Besides acting, David-Lloyd is the lead singer for the progressive metal band Blue Gillespie. The band was first called A Breath of Blue Fire.
In 2008, the band released their first collection of songs, called an EP, titled Cave Country. They released a second part, Cave Country Part 2, in 2009. The band's first full album, Synesthesia, came out in 2010. Their second album, Seven Rages of Man, was released in 2012.
Acting Career
While studying at Coleg Gwent, David-Lloyd acted in many local plays. They later trained at the National Youth Theatre and moved to Reading to continue their acting career. One of their stage roles was playing Sebastian in the play Twelfth Night.
In 2004, they appeared in a TV show called Mine All Mine, which was written by Russell T Davies, the same person who created Torchwood. In the show, they played a character who was also named Ianto Jones.
Becoming Famous in Torchwood
In 2006, David-Lloyd got their first regular role on television in the show Torchwood. The show is a spin-off of the famous series Doctor Who. In Torchwood, they played Ianto Jones, a key member of a secret organization that protects Earth from alien threats.
They appeared in three seasons of Torchwood. They also played Ianto Jones in two episodes of Doctor Who: "The Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End".
Even after the show, David-Lloyd continued to play Ianto Jones in audio dramas for Torchwood. They have also written some of the stories for these audio plays.

After Torchwood, David-Lloyd acted in many other TV shows and movies.
- In 2010, they played Dr. John Watson in the movie Sherlock Holmes.
- In 2011, they were in a Syfy movie called Red Faction: Origins, which was based on a video game.
- They also appeared in an episode of the American TV show Warehouse 13.
- From 2012 to 2013, they had a recurring role as Rhys Hopkins in the British medical drama Holby City.
- In 2018, they also appeared in another medical show, Casualty, as Joshua Bowers.
Personal Life
David-Lloyd married Gemma James in 2010. They have two children, a daughter named Lily and a son named Eli. David-Lloyd uses he/they pronouns.
