Gareth David-Lloyd (born 28 March 1981) is a Welsh actor and writer. He is most famous for playing Ianto Jones in the British science fiction TV show Torchwood.

Early Life and Acting Start
Gareth David-Lloyd was born in Bettws, Newport, Wales. His very first acting role was playing a robot in a play at his junior school.
As a teenager, he joined youth theatre groups in Abergavenny and Newport. He performed in many plays, including famous ones like Macbeth and Henry V. He even played the main character in Henry V. Gareth later studied Performing Arts at Crosskeys College in South Wales.
A former political leader, Neil Kinnock, once saw Gareth perform. He was so impressed that he sent Gareth £250 to help him with his acting career.
Gareth David-Lloyd's Career
Music Career
Gareth David-Lloyd is the lead singer for a progressive metal band called Blue Gillespie. Before this, the band was known as A Breath of Blue Fire.
They released their first music collection, an EP called Cave Country, in December 2008. A second part, Cave Country Part 2, came out in August 2009. Their first full album, Synesthesia, was released in May 2010. Their second album, Seven Rages of Man, followed in May 2012.
Acting Roles
While studying in college, Gareth performed in local plays in Newport and Cardiff. He then trained at the National Youth Theatre. After that, he moved to Reading to continue his acting journey. One of his stage roles was Sebastian in Twelfth Night.
In 2004, Gareth appeared in a comedy-drama called Mine All Mine. This show was written by Russell T Davies, who later created Torchwood. In this show, Gareth played a character also named Ianto Jones. In 2005, Gareth also started studying philosophy and psychology part-time.
Starring in Torchwood
Gareth David-Lloyd returned to Wales in 2006 for his first regular TV role. This was in Torchwood, a spin-off show from Doctor Who. He played Ianto Jones, a member of the secret Torchwood Institute.
Gareth was in three out of four series of Torchwood. He even appeared in two episodes of Doctor Who in 2008: "The Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End". He has also recorded many Torchwood audio stories, where he continues to play Ianto Jones. Since 2015, he has also written some of these audio scripts.
Other TV and Film Work
After Torchwood, Gareth appeared in a short comedy film called A Very British Cover-up in 2009. He also played a police detective in an online crime thriller, Girl Number Nine.
In 2010, Gareth was in an episode of the TV show The Bill. He also played Dr. John Watson in a film called Sherlock Holmes. That same year, he played Prince Charming in the pantomime Cinderella.
Gareth starred as Dr Robert Cameron in an independent short film called Casimir Effect. This film was released in 2011. The creators hope to turn it into a TV series. In June 2011, Gareth was a main character in the Syfy movie Red Faction: Origins, which was based on video games. Later in 2011, he appeared in an episode of the SyFy show Warehouse 13.
From 2012 to 2013, Gareth played Rhys Hopkins on the TV show Holby City. In 2018, he joined the cast of the medical drama Casualty as Joshua Bowers.
Personal Life
Gareth David-Lloyd married Gemma James in 2010. They have two children, a daughter named Lily and a son named Eli.
