It was a big deal because he made the Patriots' main roster of 53 players. Many undrafted players don't make it. He played in almost every game during his first year.

The Patriots' coach, Bill Belichick, later said they should have drafted Guyton. This shows how impressed they were with his performance.

In 2009, Gary Guyton became a full-time starter for the Patriots. He started all 16 games that season. He played as an inside linebacker. He finished the year with 85 tackles and 1.5 sacks. This was a great season for him as a key player on defense.
