Gemini Peak is a cool mountain top, also called a summit, found in the Mosquito Range. This mountain range is part of the huge Rocky Mountains in North America.
This mountain stands tall at about 13,958 feet (which is about 4,254 meters) above sea level. It's located in the beautiful state of Colorado in the United States.
Gemini Peak is special because it has two distinct tops, almost like twin peaks! The name "Gemini" actually comes from a Latin word meaning "twins," which fits this mountain perfectly. The peak on the northeast side is just a little bit higher than its "twin" on the southwest side.
Where is Gemini Peak?
Gemini Peak is located in central Colorado. It sits right on the border between two counties: Lake County and Park County.
- It's about 0.7 miles (1.1 kilometers) north-northeast of another famous mountain called Mount Sherman.
- The mountain is on a "drainage divide." This is like a high ridge that separates two different areas where water flows. On one side, water flows into one river system, and on the other side, it flows into a different one.
The Twin Summits
What makes Gemini Peak unique are its two distinct summits. Imagine a mountain with two high points close together!
- The northeast summit is the slightly taller one.
